A completely horsey post here, More like a complaining one really so here goes.....

My horse Nicky had a sore back, and i was stressing so we called out the vet(Friend of ours).
She checked him all over and said he is sore in alot of places, but this soreness happened along time before i got him. She also checked all my saddles and everything, took blood test etc. She really liked him said he has lovely confimation(sp) and lovely nature(he was sleeping most of the time) So we asked her when i can ride next (Haven't ridden in two weeks cause of the back thing) She said, he will be fine, just put a back pad under the saddle. She also said I could show this weekend (Little show)

So here's me trusting the vet and I went for a little ride to see for my self if he really would be ok. So I walk for a bit then trotted his trot is very short but not to bad, all of a sudden I round a corner and he starts bucking!!!!! Now Trust me here this horse NEVER bucks!!!!!! something was wrong, so I jumped off and put him away, and will be once again calling the vet grrrr.

Dont worry no more riding.... I problem now is... We only have him on lease for a few more months then we give him back or buy him.

To fix him up to make him rideable with cost us ALOT of money (Back, Neck, rump, teeth and feet etc) and a long time, me slowly brining him in to work, and doing excises every day etc, I would be lucky to get about a month riding in by the time he is fully right again (Been through this alllllll before so i know all the timing etc) Then If i decide not to buy him we wasted ALOT of money, or if they decide not to sell him we wasted ALOT of money that we really don't have.

I have already been considering not buying him and in facted getting a cheaper horse, just to do pony club on and not event at all. But now im just losted cause i would still love to event and i do love nicky.

GTG dinners in, this is my devil.gif post for today!!!!

I would personally say it's not worth it
there are lots of other horses out there, who are perfectly sound and maybe even cheaper (as you said).

I've been through back problems with a couple of horses - a few months of chiro & massage therapy fixed one great. However the other one had a recurring problem (multiple chiro visits required every season - plus only limited outings so as not to overstress things). Do you really want to take a chance on that being the case?

I'm sure you'll find a lovely horse, even if it is only to do PC level on this coming season... but if you get a kind & willing horse you'll be doing higher level horse trials before you know it! smile.gif

Yeah im so having a war in my head right now!!!!!

My first horse we had back problems and major founding problems that took me out for most shows.
Charlie we have major back problems that took me out of everything, then slowly bringing him back in to work to find he is insane anyways.
Nicky.... Back problems

I see a pattern forming here me and horses with back problems that I can never ride.

I myself even through im young have serious back and neck problems. Relating to doing to much gymnastics at a young age, having a double jointed neck and falling off the wrong way a few times. So I know what it is like it hurts!!!!!

And I really don't want to be out for another season.

I have back problems grrr!! slip disks. I wear a brace to ride, sooo hot I hate it!

My guy all he ever had was a saddle sore = I bought a new saddle wink.gif

But that's terrible Twisted!! I hate to say this but it seems like ablessing that he is a lease and you can give him back.

So true what Perfie said there are so, so many less expensive SOUND horses out there... be picky!~ biggrin.gif

Ouch bigjumper!!!! it is a pain, I find Im fine picking up my horses feet ok it's just the point of when i stand up i can't move for about a minture. I couldn't find a brace to ride in sad.gif, May I asked how you slipped disks in your back was it horse related it sounds really sore.

When I fell off charlie and whiplashed my neck, I was in a neck brace for 11 days, and i wasn't allowed to ride. LOL i was riding the next day but we had to becareful as the lady that was treating my neck lives at the house at the top of this meaning she had to drive directly passed where i rode.

We brought a brand new saddle for charlie a week before I competely stopped riding him unsure.gif

aww :/ My horse had a sore back, but not too bad, it ws from his saddle. We bought a new one, and meanwhile rode in a super old Crosby that fits him perfectly and he has performed better than ever in it. go figure.. blink.gif
**Katie+Jim**
maybe try one of those thick half back pads, they really work wonders and every horse ive ever put one on has gone 100 times better in it.

Thanks biggrin.gif.

Horses make for some hard descions!!!!!!

I am now thinking I would love to keep Nicky to do horse of the year on. Most likely Show hunter, but would like to try and qualify for dressage and maybe showjumping.

So Do horse of the year this year and Champs the year after. He is an amazing allrounder, Like the horse u have perfie. He is also ment to be excellent at hunter.

Grrrrr horses these days and it really doesn't help them im an indecideable teenager!!!!!

I had a back pad for Charlie, but i never used it on Nicky as the saddle fitted perfect. I will from now on

BTW yes i do change my mind everyday sad.gif hehe and it's really annoying me

I'm so sorry about the horse, back problems are horrible. I would probably not keep him b/c of it, but i know its so hard b/c you are attached. even if the horse does make a dramatic improvement soon you don't want to have a horse with an injury you have to look out for.

I feel that pain as well Twisted! What a pain in the but to straigten up after picking up horses feet.. gotta go slow ...

In 2001 I was riding my Appy hunter bareback with halter and lead... we were fooling around with the other horses, he starts bucking-head between his legs, I could not get his head up and said ok I have to fall so I dodged to the right (ya know those planned falls always hurt) ... so I was sore for a few days, had X rays taken - showed nothing .... end of 2002 ... had some issues again, this time went for MRI's (whole body X rays) so came back with slipped discs in my lower back .. on top of scoliosis ... it sucks! No wonder why I cannot get my shoulder back to equitate! biggrin.gif
