Had a lesson with Kate Atlee a UK team member and GP dressage rider.

Well, what to say.

Jack tried to eject me, twice.

The second time I thought I would go into orbit. Although I did end up with a hank of mane still clutched in my hand!

Kate said he was very talented, supple and scopey but he was also a monster and I needed to kill the oggly, silly moments before he had a chance to do his airs above the ground. Kill mode is straight onto a tiny circle.

This is why he was so cheap. Horses of similar age, breeding and points go for 5 figures. Thats the $40/50k market in the US - we are 3rd level

But, I was able to sit while he propelled himself across the arena in three "all legs off the ground" broncs and to his deadly sideswipe.

Kate took my spurs off and made me ride a 10m circle kicking him, so that I could get him used to moving up and off without all the broncing. Spurs then back on and more trot work in a more advanced outline. Went very well.

At the end he stood like butter would not melt in his mouth.

She agreed that he has a clearly defined comfort zone and it must be continually challenged.

All in all, considering we have not so much as ridden in our dressage saddle since October, let alone in a dressage arena, it was pretty good. I felt secure and comfortable.

Phew!

Lesson with my trainer on Thursday.

A bit of nice british countryside in the background.

Excuse the "wide hands" we were trying to get him to do his "airs above the ground" again so I could drop him one!
