For my friend's 16th birthday I'm putting together a random basket of stuff that she can do now that she has her license, and I want to burn her a CD of good songs to sing to when you drive. Any genre works and it doesn't have to be recent, just something thats fun to turn up really loud and sing to. What would you suggest?

Anything old school, like Backstreet Boys or Spice Girls, something completely cheesy but everyone knows it.
Two of my personal favorites for the car are Going The Distance by Cake and Love and Memories by O.A.R., oh and anything AC/DC works well when blasted

You know, Journey singalongs have been quite the rage this year, at least at my school. Also Bob Marley.

oh you bet, Don't Stop Believing is a real winner. I'd also reccomend Supernova Girl from Zenon on Disney Channel is a goodie too. Crazy Bitch, Beer for my Horses, Money Maker, Play With Fire (from the one, the only Hilary Duff hahahaha) and Tipsy are some of my personal favs at the moments as far as car songs go (quite a variety I know haha)

I am going to cry when my free 3 months of XM radio runs out in my car. :(
Free Falling by Tom Petty
It's the End of the World by REM
My Love Opened the Door (don't remember)
1000 Miles by The Proclaimers (I think that's what it's called...)
Ridin Dirty by Chamillionaire (fuck yes!)
The Chain Song by Chingy
Anything by Skynard or Journey
Anything from when you were 12
I could go on. Pretty much all of the classics are always fun, mixed in with some new silly stupid ones.

I'm on a country kick right now. As for singing along-
"Walking in Memphis", Lonestar
"Whiskey Girl", "Beer for my Horses", and "I Love This Bar" all by Toby Keith
"Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)", Big & Rich
"Love You Out Loud", Rascal Flatts
And of course, anything 90s pop, anythign on the Jock Jams or NOW cds, some non-thug-rap, anything by OAR or Dispatch (bring back dispatch!), Ace of Base, oh and Natasha Bedingfield. I also like KT Tunstalls new song while driving (Suddenly I See).

Have you seen the new music vid for Suddenly I See? IMO something new and creative and me like. I used to hate OAR but for some reason I find myself listening more to them. And you can never go wrong with Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy).

We've done a couple of road trips since I've been here at school and I'm trying to remember what we've been listening to...
You DEFINITELY need AC DC - You Shook Me All Night Long, Bon Jovi - Living on Prayer, Mr. Big - To Be With You and Lynard Skynard - Sweet Home Alabama. OHHH and VanMorrison - Brown Eyed Girl.
Then there is always the cheesey party rap thats fun to rock out to, like Lean W/ It Rock W/ It, Snap Your Fingers, Chain Hang Low, Shake Your Money Maker, etc.
Country songs are good too... and I love rocking out to Tom Petty - Life is a Highway, Ameican Girl, Free Falling, and Back Down. Guns N Roses - Sweet Child of Mine and Paradise City. Another complete necesity is Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline.
Oh god and then the random techno songs, DHT - Listen to Your Heart and Cascada - Everytime We Touch. They're quality.
I was in the car for like 14 hours this past weekend driving from Columbia, SC to Nashville so we did a lot of rocking out in the car.

and the original walking in memphis by marc cohn is ten million times better than the lame new country version....
i like anything that you can really crank up and sing along too, the stuff you are otherwise too embarrassed to admit you listen too is always valubale road trip material. think ace of base, britney spears, country

Holy shit! So it's not JUST me and the people I hang with! Don't Stop is seriously our theme song...you MUST get the Journey greatest hits...two whole cd's! Separate Ways is also INSANE in the car.
Of course seeing them live takes the cake...hehe
And just for the record...for those of you who had spelled it wrong...it's Lynyrd Skynyrd...they're all Y's.
Songs that I can contribute to the discussion:
Load Out-Jackson Browne
Rhinestone Cowboy or Witchita Lineman-Glenn Campbell!
Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me-Keith Urban

You're right. I had a moment.
And the Rascal Flatts version of it blows and I hate it.
OH GOD. I can't believe I forgot. Michael Jackson - The Way You Make Me Feel, Bille Jean, Beat It, Black & White, Man in the Mirror... all the good old ones.
There are a lot of really good 80's ones... Madonna - Material Girl, Like a Prayer, Open Your Heart and Whitey Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody & How Will I Know. REO Speedwagon - Keep on Loving You, Cutting Crew - I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight. I like Journey a lot, but if I hear Don't Stop Believing one more time, I think I'll kill myself. I've seriously ODed on that song.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. This is the number one song to screech in your car with your friends. I'm somewhat surprised to not see it mentioned until now.
I'm also partial to the Loaf..."I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" is one of my favorites.
ETA Don Maclean's "American Pie" because I love it so.

As any fan should. All 8 minutes, 32 seconds of it.
I'd also love to add "Drift Away" (either the Dobie Gray or Uncle Kracker cover. Both are excellent).
